Fair Housing Policy
Our commitment
TravelerShare follows the federal Fair Housing Act and state and local fair housing laws. Every house on TravelerShare is open to every Guest. Hosts may not refuse, discourage, or treat a Guest differently because of race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), national origin, disability, familial status, or any other trait protected where the house is located.
Where this applies
Listing titles, descriptions, house rules, photo captions, messages, and any questions a Host asks a Guest.
Wording that isn't allowed
Describe the house, never the person you want in it. Examples of wording we remove:
- "Female only," "men only," "perfect for a single guy"
- "No kids," "adults only," "ideal for young professionals"
- "Christian home," "English speakers only," "Americans preferred"
- "No wheelchairs," "must be able to climb stairs," "no service animals"
- "Mature" or "quiet older tenants preferred"
Describing the house is fine: "three flights of stairs, no elevator," "quiet street," "no smoking indoors," "two blocks from campus."
Disability accommodations
Hosts must consider reasonable requests from Guests with disabilities, including service and assistance animals, even when a house has a no-pets rule.
Reporting a listing
To report a concern about any house, email support@travelershare.com. Include the house name or listing link and describe your concern. Our team reviews every report. We may edit wording, pause a house, or remove a Host who breaks this policy. The Host is not told who reported a listing.
Filing a complaint with the government
You can also file a fair housing complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at hud.gov/fairhousing or 1-800-669-9777.
